Alternative comparison

A Distill.io alternative -
for people who would rather read a summary than a diff

Distill is excellent if you enjoy reading the diff yourself. Zikit is AI-first: you get a plain-English paragraph and an importance score, so you only look at the full change when it matters. Free plan on both, so worth a real side-by-side.

Where the two products differ

What you get when a page changes

Zikit

A plain-English paragraph from an LLM: what changed, why it might matter, with an importance score 1-10.

Distill.io

A side-by-side or inline diff. You read the before/after yourself and decide what it means.

Noise filter

Zikit

42 built-in regex patterns strip timestamps, cache-busters, live-viewer widgets, UTM params, and countdown timers before comparison.

Distill.io

You configure a CSS selector to scope the watched region yourself. Powerful if you know CSS, brittle if the site redesigns.

Alert routing by urgency

Zikit

Set a threshold (default 4+) and low-importance edits never page you. Optional keyword triggers on top.

Distill.io

Alerts fire on every detected change inside your selected region.

Checking frequency (free plan)

Zikit

Daily schedule, 3 sites with unlimited pages each, AI summaries included.

Distill.io

25 local checks (run inside the browser extension while open), limited cloud checks.

Checking frequency (paid)

Zikit

Pro $19/mo: 20 sites, hourly cloud checks. Business $49/mo: 100 sites, 15-minute cloud checks.

Distill.io

Paid plans unlock more cloud monitors and shorter intervals. Varies by tier.

Where alerts land

Zikit

Email, Slack, Telegram, Webhooks. iOS app + Chrome extension included on every plan.

Distill.io

Email, Slack, push (via extension), webhooks. Browser extension is the primary surface.

When Distill is the better pick

Honest answer - sometimes it is. Consider staying on Distill if:

  • You need fine-grained CSS selector control, XPath, or regex-based extraction inside a page.
  • You want the comparison to run locally in your browser (not the cloud).
  • You prefer reading the raw diff and don’t want an LLM interpreting it for you.

No product is universally better. Pick what matches how your team reads change.

Frequently asked

Is this page going to bash Distill?

No. Distill is a respected, mature product with a strong browser extension. Zikit isn't the same product - we chose AI-summarized cloud checks over configurable pixel-diffs. Whether that's better depends on whether you'd rather read a 2-sentence summary or a diff.

Can I import my Distill watchlist?

Not directly yet. But Zikit's bulk-import takes a sitemap URL and proposes monitors for the pages worth watching (pricing, changelog, legal, careers) in one pass. If you have a Distill export, open an issue and we'll look at a converter.

Does Zikit work in the browser like Distill's extension?

The Zikit Chrome extension lets you start a monitor with one click from any page, with a visual CSS picker for scoping. But monitoring itself runs in the cloud - we don't require the extension to stay open.

Is the AI summary trustworthy?

Every summary is generated from the actual page diff, not a hallucinated guess. The importance-1 fallback fires if the model can't identify concrete evidence, so we'd rather return 'no meaningful change' than a confident wrong paragraph. See /recent-catches for honest examples.

Is there a free plan?

Yes - 3 sites, unlimited pages per site, daily cloud checks, AI summaries, and email alerts. No credit card. Stays free as long as you want.
